Ball2 Battery And Charging
Nobody wants another thing in their life that needs to be charged. That's why we're so pumped to have such great battery life with Ball2. Over 500 hours of playtime over a 3 year period.
The Ball2 has a ~600 mAh (milliamp hour) battery. Our average current draw when streaming the data is 917µA. 600 mAh / .917 mA = 654 hours of play time, but we have also have to power the ball while not being played with, which is about 4.9µA. So- at LEAST 500 hours of play! The key components that let us achieve these numbers:
- A proprietary data streaming protocol
- Lower voltage that is directly usable by our processor - drops the need for more expensive power management circuitry
- Low internal resistance that can easily supply the peak currents when using the BLE radio
- Lithium primary battery that has an energy density of about 2x that of a rechargeable lithium ion battery.
